I moved to the mountains of North Carolina around 1997 seeking further experience in clay and began working for several local ceramic artists. The first few years were spent exploring the area, studying native herbs and wild flowers and taking classes at Odyssey. I then became Director of Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts in 2003-2008. Of course, my favorite task at Odyssey was not only bringing in wonderful ceramic artists for classes & workshops, but also watching the development of Odyssey’s resident artists and the many students. My experience at Odyssey was very influential and my own work went through numerous changes.
My curiosity in clay is coupled with my passion for the endless beauty of this world and the strength of the human spirit. A plant’s ability to burst forth from a slab of concrete, continually changing to adapt and survive the harsh atmosphere of earth, gives hope of endurance. My love of nature, the cycle of growth, and the strength of all living things finds its way into each piece. I’m fortunate to be able to create images inspired by patterns of nature, the smallest wonders on this planet. Much of my enjoyment is spent endlessly scavenging for odd, natural objects—a lovely way to spend the day!
I wish to extend much gratitude, joy, reverence, and love to those who have helped in this path and given encouraging support; my sweet partner, family and many friends.
